Gwadar: Prayers of people of Gwadar came through and after almost two years, it started raining again, on Monday
Gwadar is in talks everywhere in Pakistan with developments and Pak-China Corridor, but the basic needs such as Water was a major problem until Monday.
The Dam which fulfills the Water needs for the local of Gwadar “ANKARA DAM” was no more having the storage of the water with no rain for more than two years and the residents of Gwadar were purchasing water for 10,000 to 12,000 per tanker for the last 6 Months.
When Ankara Dam was constructed in 1995 and the capacity to store water was 50 feet for the people of Gwadar, at that time the population of Gwadar was around 20,000.
Today the population of Gwadar has risen to more than 200,000 and the capacity to store water in Ankara Dam has reduced to approximately 19 Feet with mud capturing the major part of the Dam and the depth is reduced dramatically.
This was the second major time when the shortage of water hit the citizen with the first shortage came in 2011 which lasted 6 months and the second shortage started in December 2015 and hopefully resolved in March 2016.
People of Gwadar are happy and thanking God for saving the lives and giving the blessings to the people of Gwadar with Rain.
Further, a responsible person from water board confirmed; “The water in Ankara Dam reached to 11 feet and the capacity in total to store is 19 feet, we have 8 feet available in our limits”
A local Said; “ First I thank God and grateful that God listened our prayers, but it can’t run this way the officials and Government must find a permanent solution for this matter, otherwise it will hit us again maybe in next year or so.”
