Case of Ameerullah Kakar: Success Story of Online Journalism

In 8th month of his treatment of Brain Tumor, Ameerullah Kakar seemed determined and committed to return back to normal life till September this year.
He made these expressions while talking to Balochistan Voices on his brief stay in Quetta during his journey from Karachi to Killa Saifullah.
Who is Ameerullah Kakar? Those who follow social media and online journalism in Balochistan might have a clue.

Ameer Ullah Kakar is a 23 year old student from Killa Saifullah Balochistan who was diagnosed with Brain Tumor while on a study exchange trip to USA. Government of Balochistan committed to bear all expenses of treatment of Ameer Ullah once his story was published in Balochistan Point.
Case of Ameerullah Kakar is unique in a sense that it was initially highlighted by online newspaper and then picked up by mainstream electronic media. Upon pressure generated from both online and mainstream media, government of Balochistan announced to fully fund the treatment of Ameerullah.
Ameerullah is under constant treatment in Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) since August 2015 when he returned to Pakistan from USA while leaving his exchange program incomplete.
Ameerullah has had four head surgeries and complicated phase of his brain tumor treatment has passed; now he is on the recovery phase which is often very long.
Last month he came to Killa Saifullah, his native town, for first time since August last year. Now, he travels to Karachi once a month for few days for chemo treatment and checkup.
Head surgeries have taken their toll on Ameerullah. He finds it very difficult to write and also has some memory problems when it comes to differentiating between similar things. However he believes that he will overcome all the problems in next few months.

Ameerullah has frozen his 4 years degree course in Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad. “I hope to resume my studies after complete recovery from my illness in September this year hopefully,” said a determined Ameerullah.
He told Balochistan Voices that United States Educational Foundation Pakistan (USEFP) officials met him in Karachi and ensured him that once he is recovered he could be sent back to USA to complete his exchange program course.
Ameerullah Kakar personally thanked Chief Secretary Balochistan, Saifullah Chatta for his help during his entire treatment. “Chief Secretary has given me his private cell number and is always one call away in time of need.”

He complained that provincial finance department often creates problems for release of funds for his treatment in AKUH. “My family members have to sort out things each and every time finance department blocks funds to AKUH for my treatment under some flimsy pretext,” lamented Ameerullah.
Ameerullah thanked all the people who supported him and his family in any way during the turbulent times that they faced from August 2015 onwards.
