Gwadar: Coal-fired Plant replaced by LNG Plant

Quetta: Coal-fired power plant project for Gwadar city has been cancelled and replaced with LNG plant by environment section of Ministry of Planning Development, on Wednesday.
Credible sources within federal government, on condition of anonymity, have told Balochistan Voices that this decision has been made after serious reservations raised by people of Gwadar on the coal-fired project.
Power plant will be installed in Gwadar as a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

LNG powered power plant is considered to be environment friendly as compared to coal-fired power plants.
Environment section of Ministry of Planning and Development on Wednesday formally cancelled Coal-fired power plant project due to the environmental concerns raised by people.
People of Gwadar have expressed jubilation over the news of cancellation of coal-fired power plant.
Gwadar is part of south-western wind corridor and a coal-fired power plant would damage the environment of the area, sources placed in federal government revealed to Balochistan Voices.
Coal-fired power plants have been criticized by experts for their damage to the environment and developed countries are discouraging the use of such plants.
