Quetta: Government of Balochistan notified repatriation of Assistant Executive Officers (AEOs), on Friday.
A notification issued by office of Chief Secretary Balochistan On 15th December, stated that notification number S-VIII-2(3)/2008-S&GAD dated 3 April 2008 is withdrawn and all the AEOs are asked to report to S&GAD.
As a consequence of this notification 2 Additional Commissioners and 8 Deputy Commissioners have been relieved of their duties in Balochistan.
Sources in government have told Balochistan Voices that summaries have been prepared and sent to Chief Secretary for replacement of all AEOs with BCS and BSS officers.

In August 2001, 100 AEOs were recruited to facilitate the Local Body system of Balochistan. However in 2008, when Local Body system was abolished, the remaining 75 AEOs of Planning and Development (P&D) and Finance Department were absorbed into BCS and BSS.
In 2013 Supreme Court gave the ruling to cancel all ex-cadre absorption in Civil Services in a case of Sindh.
In that context, current ADC (General) of Lasbela, Tariq Javed Mengal, on behalf of BCS and BSS groups filed a petition against Government of Balochistan for not implementing Supreme Court decision of 2013.
On 15th November 2016, Supreme Court gave a time of 4 weeks to Chief Secretary Balochistan to implement 2013 decision or face contempt of court proceedings.
It’s feared that repatriation of AEOs case will create vacuum and mayhem on one hand, and may breed resentment, on the other, if other similar inductions are left unattended.
