Letter: Book Reading Culture Diminishing

Almost a week ago, a book stall was arranged at the University of Turbat providing an easy access to students from college to university level to buy books both text books and general books. Students were seen buying text books, when asked why they were buying only text books, the reply was the same; our concern is just to read course books only. This is a testimony to the fact that the culture of reading general books is diminishing amongst the students. If we search their bags, we are less likely to find any general book in their bags.
No doubt, a student’s concern must be only to read text books but reading general books also and always pays dividends. They help the students in competitions like CCS and PCS.
Therefore, I urge the students to consider giving time, whatever little it may be, to reading general books and at the same time I appeal to the Balochistan Government to organize seminars in colleges and universities to generate awareness and importance of general book reading.
