Quetta: The local bus conductors transporting through different routes in Quetta city are collecting more than 15 rupees, which is five per cent more than the fixed fare by the government, from passengers while excusing them (passengers) for not having change of 5 rupees. People are facing lot of problems due to such behaviour of local bus conductors.
The transport authority claims that all facilities are provided to the passengers while either travelling to local area or other cities from Quetta. However, this claim is just confined to press statements. The dilapidated condition of local buses is bothersome and there is no check and balance on the maintenance of buses on regular basis. On the other hand the transport authority has started crackdown against profiteers in Quetta and throughout Balochistan to ensure a comfortable journey for the passengers.
Sajid Baloch, a local resident of Qambarani road Quetta, told Balochistan Voices that no buses in good condition for local people were available on Qambarani road and other areas of Quetta city.
“There are plenty of facilities for people of Balochistan while travelling to other cities of province but local people in Quetta suffer in the hands of local bus mafia. The local bus conductors behave immorally with people during travel,” added Mr. Sajid.
Mr. Baloch further added that government of Balochistan and price control committee had fixed different fares across Balochistan but no one was following such rules. Students had to pay 50% fare for local or domestic travels in Pakistan as well as in Balochistan, but it was very sad to say that people were being deprived of all facilities and students remained the prime victim of such behaviour.
“There is a chain of problems during our travel from bazaar to home. We are afraid of pick pockets, which often pick pockets in local buses. People also have problem of restful place in local buses,” said Wajid Baloch, a Local resident of Saryab road Quetta, to Balochistan Voices.
The local drivers allow 3 to 4 buses to travel simultaneously which causes to increase problems for travellers. The conductors overload buses which is very annoying and uncomfortable.
The people appeal to price control committee and Transport authority to take serious actions against such local buses and ensure good quality of buses for them and also ensure that bus owners follow rules and do justice in charging fares which government has fixed.
