Afghan Refugees Should be Excluded from Census: Balochistan High Court

Quetta: Balochistan High Court (BHC) passed an order to exclude Afghan Refugees from the 6th population census, on Tuesday.
A divisional bench of the BHC comprising of Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar and Abdullah Baloch passed the order over a petition filed by Balochistan National Party (BNP).
BNP had argued in its plea that a large number of Afghan refugees were living in Balochistan for more than three decades. BNP further argued in their petition that inclusion of Afghan refugees in the upcoming census and expressed concern over demographic changes in Balochistan.
Divisional bench of BHC also ordered the government to include the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from various parts of Balochistan in the census.
BNP had pointed out in their petition that a large number of people from Baloch districts were displaced as result of unrest in various districts of Balochistan during the last 15 years.
Sixth population census is all set to commence from 15th March in 15 districts of Balochistan.
Earlier, a grand tribal and population Jirga convened in Quetta in February had demanded from government to exclude foreigners from the upcoming census.
