The unemployment issue in the poverty-stricken province of Balochistan is extremely complex and puzzling. Instead, the government maneuver a situation in control, it has closed its eyes like an ostrich to escape this issue. Providing jobs opportunities to the masses, is perhaps the part of manifesto of each political party. Irony, the winning candidates when sit on throne often veer off their slogan and promises they have made during election campaign.
However, it heats up a debate across the province, 28,000 posts are lying vacant but it is still a bit of surprise, what the obstacles had left that make the government failed to kick off the process.
In December last year, the government of Balochistan announced 28,000 jobs which were supposed to be filled within the span of three months. In the month of January, the provincial cabinet approved these mass scale recruitments that 16 scale and above posts will be conducted by Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) and the others will be made under National Testing Service (NTS). This good news brought hundreds of jobless people to excitement and found it a great ray of hope.

Saiffullah Chatta then Chief Secretary of Balochistan officially admitted, if these posts are not made within six months, funds for those jobs would be lapsed. The mass scale recruitments are, to be reached the process till the month of June lest it should waste the funds or fall into lapse. It’s a bit of confusion which seemingly reverts the people to disappointments.
Despite the five months have passed since the announcement took place, but the government of Balochistan still sleeps like a log as if nothing is going to wake it up.
Immediate prospects of making these recruitments seem to have gone heedless. Unemployment is raising it’s head in the province. If we have a quick look at a survey report, in each year 25,000 people are graduated in Balochistan but not more than 2000 people only secure jobs.
Those who carve out careers in government departments either pay bribes or get pushed through nepotism and favoritism. Anyway, it is another debate needs to dilate upon that our politicians are still not outgrown of this curse.
It also looks like, there is complete lack of coordination between the bureaucracy and the government. The Ex CM Balochistan Dr Malik Baloch admitted, as CM he was unaware of these posts during his tenure. It reflects sheer incompetency and lack of political will on equal footings. In other sense it presumes, Balochistan government does not want this problem resolved, the unemployment issue grappled with the province is deliberately being swept aside.
This is a serious problem cannot be ignored like this. The masses live in a chronic economic depression. It will beget an inevitable crisis in the province if the question of unemployment stands unheard. Now, there shouldn’t be left any iota of excuse for the government to make these posts within the realms of a given time.
To avert fund lapse for the said posts, Balochistan government should complete the recruitment process before the end of June this year. It will bring a big change in the province if these 28,000 jobs are to be processed effectively.
