SBKWU Students Hospitalization: Committee formed to Probe and Fix Responsibility

Quetta: A committee has been formed by Health Secretary of to probe and fix responsibility for the illness and hospitalization of over two dozen students of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University (SBKWU), on Monday.
According to the media reports, over two dozen students of SBK Women’s University who were living in hostel were brought to BMC hospital due to food poisoning, on Sunday Night.
Reportedly, poor quality of food and water provided to the students of SBKWU in hostels had caused food poisoning.
Sources claimed that almost a hundreds students were affected by the food poisoning whereas university administration put the figure of students affected at 25.
A sister of a student who lives in SBKWU Hostel told Balochistan Voices on condition of anonymity that almost 80% girls in hostel are affected by Food poisoning. She claimed that affected students are facing problem of loose motions and severe stomach ache.

A paper scheduled in SBKWU for Monday was postponed till 7th August due to illness of scores of students.
When the issues of hospitalization of SBKWU students made it into media then Secretary Health Balochistan, Asmatullah Kakar reached BMC hospital and took notice of the matter.

Notification of constitution of a fact finding committee which will investigate illness and hospitalization of SBK students was issued by Health department, on Monday.
This committee will scientifically examine food and water samples supplied to SBKWU students in hostels, as per the Terms of References.
Committee is also tasked with determining the cause of illness of students and fixing responsibility.
Four member Committee will be headed by Additional Secretary Health department, Hafiz Tahir. Other members will be AC city Batool Asadi, one Expert from PHE department and a drug analyst from Health Department.
Meanwhile Public Relations officer of SBKWU has claimed in a press release that 15-20 students of the university became ill due to viral infection and were shifted to BMC. All of the students have now been discharged from hospital, said the press release.
