Letter: Lack of Clean Drinking Water in Dera Murad Jamali

I have been a long time resident of Dera Murad Jamali situated in Naseerabad district.
Dera Murad Jamali has grown into a city from a small town. In the process, however, it has lost its attractive charm besides assuming the modern headaches of a city heavy traffic, pollution of all types and the lack of basic facility for life – clean water.
The water provided to our locality now is filthy and sometimes is mixed with sewage. Naturally, it is totally fit for drinking. I was shocked to read a news report that 53,000 children die every year of diarrhoea caused by contaminated water.
Besides diarrhoea, the children and adults suffer from liver, typhoid, and other diseases. More than 90 percent of the City’s population does not get safe water for drinking. In big cities, people are dependent on mineral water which is expensive and many families cannot afford this luxury.
I hope the authorities concerned would take action to ensure the availability of safe drinking water to all citizens of Dera Murad Jamali.
