Quetta: Shortage of drinking water has badly affected the daily routine of the under-privileged citizens of the provincial capital of Quetta.
In last few years, Water supplied to homes in Quetta through WASA pipelines has ceased and this has forced people to buy water from the Water Tankers.
Cost of per water tanker is anywhere between Rs. 800 to 1,200 and those who can’t afford it, have to fetch water from the nearby mosque or water filtration plants.
This exercise on daily basis consumes a lot of time of the people and their daily routine is badly affected.
Mr. Imran, who is a shopkeeper on Jan Muhammad Road, has to shut down his shop to fetch water on daily basis. He has to lose a fair bit of revenue as he closes his shop on daily basis to collect water and transport to his home.
“Nobody likes to spend good amount of his time on collecting water on daily basis,” he told Balochistan Voices. He claimed, “I have become mentally distributed to this practice.”
Mr. Aurangzeb, a Student, told Balochistan Voices that his study schedule has been badly damaged by the need to collect water from the nearby mosque on daily basis. “When I come from school, I have to rush to the mosque to fetch water and have to spend ages in waiting for my turn,” lamented Mr. Aurangzeb.
Belonging from a lower middle class family, Aurangzeb says that his family can’t afford to buy water from vendors on regular basis, so he has to fetch water for his household on daily basis.
Under privileged people have requested Chief Minister of Balochistan, Nawab Sana Ullah Khan Zehri, to take serious action against water shortage problem in Quetta and approve water supply schemes for the people.
