Natural Disasters: Unsatisfactory Response of Government

Rains and floods are caused by nature and man can’t stop them. However arrangements can be made to minimize the damage caused by these natural acts. In case of Balochistan the ill-preparedness of government is the major reason for increasing the negative impacts of natural disasters in Balochistan.
More than 15 people lost their lives and many others got injured and more than 100 people were rendered homeless due to the heavy rainfall and flooding in Balochistan in last two weeks.
The road connection between Zhob and Dera Ismail Khan was washed away due to heavy flood Ziarat and Loralai were also disconnected at Sanjavi point.
In recent days Heavy rain lashing for last several days have played havoc in different areas of Balochistan as many mud houses collapsed and roads washed away causing deaths in many areas. Sources said that the heavy rains have triggered flash flood in storm water nullahs, wreaking havoc in different parts. The rain also continued to lash the provincial capital, Quetta.
Reports said dozens of mud houses have collapsed and roads have been washed away in different districts.
Two children were carried away in flash flood and a man was killed as lightening hit him in border area of Chaman. Several roads were washed away due to hill torrents in Chaman, Toba Achakzai, Toba Kakari, Gwadar, Turbat and Khuzdar districts.
Many mud houses were collapsed in Sherani district which killed 5 men including a kid more than 10 got injured some of them were rendered homeless.
Eight people sustained injuries as lightening hit them in village Jalal-ud-Din on Pak-Afghan border area. The flash flood entered Chaman Grid Station, affecting electricity supply system.
Response from Government Side has been far from satisfactory.
 In this context, we request Chief Minister of Balochistan to take notice of the urgency of the issue and order concerned authorities to take immediate action.
