Gwadar: Fifteen councilors belonging to National Party (NP) in Local Bodies setup have resigned after being ignored by the party leadership, on Friday.
Addressing a press conference in local hotel of Gwadar, former chairman Hameed Haji announced the resignation of 15 local body councilors of NP that also include women councilors.
Hameed Haji was flanked by over two dozen councilors during the press conference.
Those who resigned include Hameed Haji, Abdul Ghani Nawazish, Abdul Rehman, Shay Sabzal Khan, Parvez Abdul Rasool, Rauf Shehzad, Abdul Razzaq, Jalil Mujahid and others.
Addressing the press conference, Mr. Haji said that “We are ending our 35 year old association with NP.” He continued that “we were part of this line of thinking since BSO days.”
Listing down the reasons for resigning from party, Mr. Haji said that biggest reason for our resignation is that we failed to keep up promises made with voters because top leadership of NP ignored us.
He reiterated that we have quit NP but we are still part of nationalistic politics.
“Our voters have lost trust in us because we failed to provide them with jobs and scholarships for their children,” lamented Mr. Haji.
He further alleged that NP leadership totally ignored their requests of providing job opportunities for people of Gwadar and construction of metallic roads in city.
Mr. Haji further said that Municipal Committee Chairman of NP, who was elected on their votes, never bothered to address their concerns.
Mr. Haji lamented that “NP has been in government since 2013 and still ministers of party are part of the cabinet but they did nothing for us.”
According to Mr. Haji, first He and his colleagues protested against injustices inside the party but senior leaders did not listen to us. “Therefore we are left with no option but to resign from NP,” announced Mr. Haji.
It was announced in the press conference that all 15 councilors have quit NP forever and will announce their future course of action soon.
When contacted by Balochistan Voices for comment, NP office bearers in Gwadar said that the resigned councilor do not have any public support and they were elected under the umbrella of NP. NP office bearers further said that the 15 councilors should also resign from their local body seats after resigning from NP.
NP is holding the office of Chairman District Council and Chairman Municipal Committee of Gwadar. According to sources both will have to face the problems of Vote of no confidence after resignation of 15 NP councilors.
