Youth Parliament Pakistan (YPP) is a wonderful platform for all the students to explore their potentials. Students from across Pakistan are selected every year through online written test followed by an interview. This project was launched by PILDAT in 2007 for the first time.
YPP is a part of PILDAT, an institute that conducts annual surveys and researches on various national issues. Besides promoting norms of participatory democracy in Pakistan, it inculcates facts-based dialogue, tolerance and understanding among youth. Also, it encourages youth, a major chunk of country’s total population, to engage in democratic processes and practices. Funded by the Denmark Embassy, high-scoring Young Parliamentarians among all are awarded with a study trip to Europe each year.
I was selected for 7th batch of youth Parliament from Balochistan. Seats are reserved for each province, including FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir, on proportional basis. It was an eye-opening platform for me where I experienced many things that will help me in my future academic career. I drafted resolutions, delivered speeches, prepared research report on a particular topic. Not only are there sessionary lectures by eminent scholars but also one experience how to canvass for votes. Importantly, I met with brilliant minds from every corner and institution of the country; each of them had a fascinating and inspiring story to tell.
All Pakistani young men and women aged between 18-29 years on January 1, 2016 and fluent in Urdu are eligible to apply. Last date for applying for YPP is 17th April.
I highly encourage all male and female youngsters from Balochistan to apply for 8th batch of youth Parliament Pakistan. Be part of this amazing initiative for you have the best of skills.
