Education is one of the essential parts of life. It is the fundamental right of everyone to get it and constitutional responsibility of every government to provide it. Education plays key role in the development of any nation. There are many flaws in our education system such as public and private sector, allocation of funds, poverty, and so on.
Firstly, the education system of Pakistan is divided into two parts such as private and public sector. From last few years there has been an increase in private schools in all over the country which caused discrimination among students. Students of private schools are more intelligent and knowledgeable than students of government schools. Majority of government schools lack basic necessities such as classrooms, chairs, laboratory equipment etc. while in private all these facilities are available for students. It’s is the responsibility of the government to provide better quality of education to its citizens.
Secondly, funds allocated for government institutions are not sufficient. Pakistan is among one of those countries in the world that spend less budget on its education system. This is one of the main reasons behind the failure of government schools. Government must increase its budget from 2% to 7% for betterment of education sector.
Similarly poverty is one of the causes and effect of dysfunctional education system. Majority of people are living below the poverty line. So they are not able to afford basic necessities of life, what to talk of education. So people send their children to seminaries where they get free education.
Majority of government school teachers are not qualified enough to teach properly. The incompetent teachers treat their students like laborers. In rural areas they use their students in construction of buildings and other domestic activities. In many Schools the teachers have rented surrogate teachers due to their engagement in other domestic activities. Governments must focus on capacity building of already recruited teachers and new teachers should be recruited on the basis of merit.
Our present curriculum is outdated. For decades our government has not updated the curriculum in accordance with dynamics of contemporary world. Our curriculum and overall culture promote memorization and it has no direction connection with practical life. Lack of technical education is also one of the major issues of our country. For this purposes majority of our students are not able to manage themselves with practical life.
Many teachers of government schools are not well trained. People who don’t get job in any other sector they try their fate in educational institution. So they are not professionally trained and they are unable to groom their students in good manner.
Gender discrimination is also one of the major flaws in our education system. Male educational intuitions are far greater in number than females. In Balochistan, female literacy rate stands between 15 to 25 percent. Apart from this, the institution also imbue from sexism especially on part of teaching faculty. In our country women’s are only considered to just look after their children and remain within their houses rather than to get education.
Governments must take some steps for the betterment of the rinky-dink education system. Curriculums must be updated in the light of needs of contemporary world. If we prepare our generation according to the needs of modern world, they can play an important role in the country’s progress.
