National Commission on Human Rights Demands Inquiry into Quetta Carnage

Quetta: Justice (Retired) Ali Nawaz Chohan, Chairman National Commission on Human Rights (NCHR), has demanded an inquiry into all aspects of the Quetta carnage. He also offered the platform of NCHR for conducting the Inquiry.
Chairman of NCHR made this announcement during his visit to Quetta Press Club on Tuesday. Justice Chohan, who was accompanied by Fazeela Aliani member of NCHR from Balochistan, condoled with the members of Quetta Press Club for the death of two cameramen in the Quetta Blast of 8th August.
A deadly suicide blast killed 75 people, including 60 lawyers, in Sandeman Provincial Hospital Quetta on 8th August when lawyers had gathered outside emergency ward to protest against killing of President Balochistan Bar Association, Bilal Anwar Kasi.

Justice Chohan termed the Quetta Blast and the following situation a Massive violation of Human rights.
“Lives of people could have been saved if there was better coordination between hospitals on the day of the blast,” said Chairman NCHR. He added that disaster management along with first aid was completely missing in aftermath of the blast.

He severely criticized NDMA and PDMA for their ill-preparedness to deal with disasters that followed in the aftermath of the Quetta blast.
Enemy is bound to attack us from all fronts and therefore Intelligence agencies have to increase their capacity to prevent mishaps like Quetta Carnage from happening again, he urged.
Justice Chohan also criticized the unnecessary VIP movement after the Quetta blast which badly affected the medical emergency treatment to the severely wounded victims.

470 doctors are posted in Sandeman Provincial Hospital but no doctor was available after that blast – Justice Chohan

Urging government of Balochistan to take disciplinary action against negligent Doctors, Chairman NCHR said that 470 doctors are posted in Sandeman Provincial Hospital but no doctor was available after that blast.
Justice Chohan, who has served in International Court of Justice Hague, said that junior lawyers of Balochistan should be sent abroad to pursue higher studies in law and fill the vacuum created in aftermath of the blast.
He further added that Journalists are intellectuals of the society and they should raise awareness about disaster management in the society so that disasters like Quetta carnage can be averted.
Shahzada Zulfiqar, President of Quetta Press Club, thanked the delegation of NCHR and ensured full support of journalist community to NCHR.
