Quetta: Role of Civil Society in promotion of Peace, Justice and Harmony was discussed in a roundtable conference held in Quetta Press Club, on Saturday.
The conference was held by Institute for Development Studies and Practices (IDSP) in collaboration with Civil Society Balochistan.
Civil Society members, Human Rights Activists, students and faculty members of IDSP participated in the conference.
Dr. Qurrat Ul Ain Bakhtiari, founding Director of IDSP, said that Balochistan has plethora of natural resources but majority of people are living life below poverty line. She added that injustice and unrest is the root cause of every problem in the province.

Sultan Tareen, a civil society activist and trainer, said that poverty is linked with peace. “If justice is not provided to the people then it will destroy peace in any society,” he added. He lamented that deprivation of the people leads them to go stray and follow the wrong path.
Tahir Hussain Advocate, Vice Chairman of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), said that Poverty is very dangerous disease which compels people to do cruel things. “It is important to ensure justice and rule of law for peace and harmony in society,” he continued.
Participants of the conference also stressed on the need to remove hate speech from curriculum and incorporate education of basic human rights and peace in curriculum.
