Kalat: Severe natural gas shortage paralyzed life activities in district Kalat of Balochistan after cold weather intensified with valley receiving its first winter season rain.
According to details cold Western winds have entered in Balochistan causing cold weather in Kalat valley and other parts of Balochistan. Kalat valley received a light rain here on Saturday morning; however sky remained covered with clouds indicating more rains.
Mr. Faisal Reki, an employee of Kalat Post Office, told Balochistan Voices that Kalat received a rainfall on Saturday morning which increased intensity of cold weather further. ”There is no gas pressure in Kalat since it has rained and the issue remains unresolved during freezing-cold spell yet. Minimum temperature recorded here today was below zero Celsius,” added Mr. Reki.
It is predicted that there are further chances of rain along with snowfall during this cold weather. But, in this severe cold weather, the residents of Kalat have been cut off from natural gas supply; however load-shedding of electricity has also doubled the woes of residents.
“In this freezing cold and shortage of natural gas supply, residents are forced to use traditional gas stoves that burn with coal and firewood. On the other hand, the ban on wood supply by government from Harboi, a place situated at a high altitude and covered with trees within the mountainous terrain of district Kalat, and other parts of Balochistan has created sever difficulties for the public,” said Mr.Saeed Hassani, a resident of Kalat.
“The residents of Kalat appeal to the concerned departments and Balochistan government to restore gas supply as soon as possible while keeping the woes of residents in view in the face of growing severe cold weather,” appealed Mr. Saeed Hassani to the government and concerned authorities.
