Significance of Education Deliberated in Open Forum in BUITEMS

Quetta: Significance of education, in context of sustainable development goal – 4, was deliberated upon in an open forum held in Takatu campus of Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), on Wednesday.
Open forum was titled Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – 4, “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” It was a part of three day thematic training for journalists on SDG-4.

Speaking at the open forum, Ahmed Farooq Bazai Vice Chancellor (VC) of BUITEMS, said that BUITEMS will make its contribution towards achievement of SDGs by establishing a relevant open forum.
Shahzada Zulfiqar, President of Quetta Press Club, who was also a panelist in the open forum highlighted the growing importance of social media in the overall media paradigm of Pakistan. “Social media has expanded in its outreach and become very effective but it can’t be called a proper media until it’s substantially regulated,” he added.

Syed Ali Shah, Bureau Chief of Dawn News, lamented the plight of education system in Balochistan. He claimed that education has become a purchasable commodity in Balochistan and government has failed to provide education to the people.
Dr. Behram Ghori of University of Balochistan discussed the philosophical angle of the education system in the province.
Dr. Faisal Kakar, dean of Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT), highlighted the extensive learning crisis in the province.
He suggested that education department of Balochistan should be managed by dedicated professionals and not seasonal bureaucrats.
Sumaira Zakir, Chairperson of Mass Communication Department of BUITEMS, delivered the welcome address and thanked the participants for attending the open forum.
Faculty members of BUITEMS, journalists and students of BUITEMS attended the open forum in large numbers.
