Balochi language as supposed as one of the old among other languages of the world. The history of this language is full of confusion and elusiveness. The views presented by Baloch and western scholars regarding its origin are yet contentious and blurred. Some historian tells us that Balochi originated from Persian and some relate its origin to Iranian group of the Indo-European language family.
According to estimation, there are more than 20 million Balochi speakers in the world. Mostly, they are inhabitants of Pakistani Balochistan, Iranian Balochistan, Afghanistan and other parts of the Asia and Europe. Because of geographical and environmental differences, the language got different dialects in different areas. Mainly, it has three famous dialects, Mekrani, Rakhshani and Koh-e-Sulemani. But on the other hand, prominent Balochi linguistic Sayyad Zahoor Shah Hashmi disagrees the classification of dialects within the language.
Balochi was an unwritten language before the 19th century. Till mid of 19th, there was the dearth of skilled literary intellects and language expert in Baloch community. Sayyad had described the Mid-Nineteenth and Twentieth rebirth of Balochi language.
Balochi is not given its due value in several perspectives. The government and language expert did not contribute appropriately to promote it within the Baloch populace areas and other parts of the country. For the promotion and progress of Balochi language experts, teachers, students and Baloch community must take initiative as soon as possible because our language is our identity and its protection and promotion is our responsibility.
