Quetta: Governance in the spheres of law enforcement, education and economy has completely collapsed in Balochistan. This province has become a place where everyone has grievances and government machinery has failed at large, said I.A Rehman, on Sunday.
I.A Rehman made these comments during the visit of Human Right Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) delegation to Quetta Press Club. He was accompanied by Hussain Naqi, Tahir Hussain Advocate and Khushal Khattak. This delegation is on a fact finding visit to Balochistan for the compilation of its annual report.
“Education situation is abysmal despite educational emergency and unemployment is also alarming in Balochistan,” said Mr. Rehman. He continued “In our entire fact finding visit we have not met a single person who has said that situation has improved in Balochistan.”
Mr. Rehman told journalists in attendance that “Terrorism is a social phenomenon and can’t be controlled only by investing on the security apparatus in the province.”

Terrorism is a social phenomenon and can’t be controlled only by investing on the security apparatus in the province – I.A Rehman

Referring to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Mr. Rehman said that Mega projects can be made into ever-lasting successes only when the concerns of the local people have been properly addressed.
Mr. Rehman further added that HRCP visited Quetta Press Club to incorporate the inputs of the journalists for the report. He condemned the impunity in killing of journalists in Balochistan who are double vulnerable.
Journalists, present in Quetta Press Club, shared their point of view about state of affairs in the province.
Shahzada Zulfiqar, President Quetta Press Club, told HRCP delegation that Quetta Commission report prepared by Justice Qazi Faez Isa is a charge sheet against provincial government and they [Provincial Government] also agree with most of the findings.
He lamented that there has been no significant improvement in law and order situation in the province. Three Major terror attacks shocked Balochistan last year and took lives of almost 200 people, said Mr. Zulfiqar.
President of Press Club informed the delegation that there is no proper journalism in Balochistan and journalists have no option but to practice self-censorship.
