International Women’s Day in Balochistan

International Women’s Day is a worldwide event which is celebrate every year on 8th march to cherish women’s achievements from the political to the social – while calling for gender equality. It has been observed since the early 1900s and is now recognized each year on March 8th. It is not affiliated with any one group, but brings together governments, women’s organizations, corporations and charities to work for the welfare of women in all over world.
According to the world economic forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2016, Pakistan has been ranked at 143 among 144 countries in the gender inequality index.
Pakistan has committed to finish gender gap in primary level and establish co-education by 2015. It will be helpful to provide a platform to women for coming in front and join shoulder with men for the development of country.
Women are facing a lot of problems in different areas of Balochistan. There is a big gap of very low job opportunities for women in different Government departments of Balochistan. Female students also face a lot of hurdles in educational institutions. The rural area girls of Balochistan province are compelled to leave incomplete their educational journey towards a brighter future due to the lack of female staff in colleges. There are a lot of problems for female students in institutions such as lack of Chemical laboratories, Libraries and furniture in such a modern era.
According to report of UNDP UNESCO 2009-10. Pakistan literacy rate is 53% and 43% for women who are deprived of education which cause to increase problems for them in every field of life.
An educated women plays a vital role in economic development of country. She should also know of her basic rights, and right of use of vote.
Women of Balochistan demand from government to form a commission for women rights in Balochistan to bring at par with other units.
Early age marriage is also one of the burning issues in Balochistan. Due to the lack of information people arrange marriages in early age which causes to increase death rate of mother and child both.
Amir Bakhsh Baloch, Program Coordinator DOST Organization Balochistan, said that we are required to invest in education of women preferably because they play a vital role in spreading knowledge and information to others. Baloch lamented that as the women share more than 50% population of country therefore ignoring them will cause to deprive upcoming generation from all facilities.
Women play an important role in every field of life.  There are 5,000 skilled women who are registered and working for self-financial empowerment in Balochistan said Sana Durrani member of National Commission on the Status of Women while talking to Balochistan Voices.
National Commission on the status of women is working since 2005 in 8 districts of Balochistan which are Nasir Abad, Jaffer Abad, Sibbi, Ziarat, Pishin, Panjgur, Awaran and Jhal Magsi for economic, legal, educational, social and political empowerment of women.
Durrani lamented that in order to achieve such goals we are providing financial support to the 80 local interested women for starting a self-business such as agriculture, local embroidery, handy craft, gem stone and etc.
We transfer the loan in three installments to the interested women. 12,000 on 1st, 50,000 on 2nd and 1 lac rupees on 3rd phase. The women who avail loan is bound to pay 1,000 per month which start from 2nd month of collection.
We have arranged 14 exhibitions in Quetta, Lahore and Islamabad for women to show their work in front of other people.
We have established 20 Community school in different districts of Balochistan where 2,000 students are getting education.
She added that Women can play an important role in development and other fields of life but needs a platform to grow up towards a bright future.
