Drug addiction is one of the most hazardous evils of any society as it hampers the development of a country. Drug addiction has been a serious menace in our country as many youngsters have been suffering from this fatal disease nationwide.
Unluckily, drug and narcotics trafficking has become order of the day in Balochistan’s city Hub where narcotics is being traded publically.
As a result, many people have fallen victim to this anathema, particularly the youth, almost no any area of the city is free from drug addicts and dealers.
It seems that government and Anti-narcotics departments have utterly been failed to curb the dealing of narcotics in the city and are in deep slumber.
As it is a general fact that a drug user cannot work regularly at any place and they are not in the position to earn money honestly when they do not get enough money for drugs then they sell their property, turn to stealing, begging or even join the gangs and become a constant threat to public. Consequently, street crime has escalated in Hub in the past few years.
The United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) 2013 report reveals that there are more than 800,000 people between the ages of 15 to 65 who are addicted to narcotics on a regular basis in Pakistan including Balochsitan’s 280,000. Indeed, this huge number is shocking.
Drug addict can neither play an affirmative role for his family nor for the betterment of country.
Moreover, there should be proper counselling on such social issues where people are awarded of its negative impact and dire consequences.
Parents and teachers should play their role in this regard and Doctors too, deal with them as normal patients. It must be our responsibility to take vigorous steps forward for its prevention before it is too late. The rehabilitation centers can also play an immense role for recovery of drug addicts. I, therefore, beseech the authorities concerned to devise mechanism to eradicate this evil from the society once and for all.
