Improving Development Budget Allocations in Balochistan Disucssed in a Roundtable

Quetta: Balochistan Council for Peace and Policy (BCPP) the self-proclaimed first think tank of Balochistan conducted a roundtable discussion on “Improving Development Budget Allocations in Balochistan,” on Saturday.
The event was co-chaired by Minister Finance Zahoor Buladi and President BCPP Dr. Mir Sadaat Baloch.
This discussion was part of the research under the title “Improving Development Budget Allocation in Balochistan: A Study of Health, Education, Communication & Works, and Social Welfare Department”, under the Competitive Research Grants for Policy-oriented Research by Pakistan Institute of Development Economics Islamabad.
The discussion covered the themes of Stakeholder Mapping, Identifying the bottlenecks, Monopoly of Power, Allocative (in)efficiencies, and Distributive (in)efficiencies.
MPA Sana Baloch stressed the need for participatory budget-making, whereas CEO BRSP Nadir Gul arrested that development budget-making should focus on the union council level to address the need more effectively.
Minister Finance highlighted the importance of feasibility reporting and evaluation in the process of development budget-making.
Dr. Mir Sadaat resolute that for improving development budget allocation community engagement and need-based assessment are vital. He claimed that their organization is striving for policy-oriented research in Balochistan to find sustainable solutions to our problem based on evidence-based policymaking rather than opinion-based decision making.
The event was also attended by civil society members Mir Behram Baloch, and Haji Behram Lehri. Additional Secretary Finance Tariq Last, Public Health Specialist Shoukat Baloch, and Joint Director Colleges Bahoo Khan Khosa represented the government sector. Vice President Chamber of Small Industry Mir Murad Baloch and Qazi Fahim attended on Behalf of the business community, Whereas Dr. Nadir Mengal and Safiullah Mengal represented the Academia.
