A reporter associated with Metro One news has been killed in a targeted bomb blast in Hub, according to sources.
The reporter was identified as Shahid Zehri, 35, who succumbed to injuries after he was shifted to Trauma Centre Karachi for treatment, the sources confirmed.
A CCTV footage of the incident shows that Shahid Zehri was traveling in his personal car when a powerful bomb went off leaving him critically injured.
“The blast occurred when Sahid Zehri was driving his vehicle. The bomb was planted in the vehicle. It was a ‘magnate’ bomb,” confirmed Mr. Yar Mohammad, city Station House Officer (SHO).
However, the motive behind the killing of the reporter could not be ascertained immediately.
“We have started an investigation into the incident. The motive behind the killing of the reporter has not been confirmed yet,” said Mr. Yar Mohammad.
Balochistan has been critical for journalists. A report published in Balochistan Voices revealed that approximately 100 journalists had been killed in Balochistan from 1994 till 2020. Moreover, the motive behind most of the killed journalists remained unknown.
