Islamabad: Applications are open for the Chevening South Asian Journalism Programme (SAJP).
SAJP is a short-term fellowship, aimed at mid-career journalists from South Asian countries including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.
Fellows will undertake a bespoke 8-week fellowship titled ‘Good Governance in a Changing World: the Media, Politics and Society’ hosted at the University of Westminster in London. The course includes lectures, visits, discussions, and interactions with key UK academics, media, and political figures in the field.
The fellowship is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office and hosted by the University of Westminster. This fellowship covers tuition fees, a living allowance at a set rate (for one individual), an economy return flight to the UK, and additional grants to cover essential expenditures.
Every year, seven journalists from Pakistan are awarded the SAJP Fellowship. Since 2012, 68 Pakistani journalists have been awarded this Fellowship. Adnan Aamir, the editor of Balochistan Voices attended the SAJP fellowship in 2018.
To be eligible for this fellowship, the applicant must be:
- A citizen of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, or the Maldives,
- has a postgraduate level qualification (or equivalent professional training or experience in a relevant area) at the time of application,
- have at least seven years of work experience before applying, be a mid-career journalist working in the political or economic sectors in one of the above-mentioned countries, and
- has a good working knowledge of English to be assessed in your application form and if you are invited to interview.
